Here it ends…..

On the 11th of June, 2022 we kick started The 7th Edition of the funky readwrite clinic, which saw 30 school children from 9 public schools in Ghana, Tamale.

selected primary school children from 5 public schools

But before we had an amazing workshop with their parents and their teachers , it was such great opportunity to hear from them and listen to their suggestions in improving the reading skills of school children. They also indicated what they will do to ensure that children are supported at home as well to complement AYWO’s efforts

For four months , we had an exhilarating experience; it was an adventure to live for! We grouped the children in three main teams; Green, Blue and Yellow which really helped to strengthen team skills .

team yellow ; always sunny
Team Green; a power force
Team Blue; silence but skillful

Things kept getting better; we had an iconic visit to the RedClay studio In Tamale created by the talented Artist Ibrahim Mahama . The RedClay Studio It has become one of the most important and popular spot to visit in Ghana

The project dubbed  ‘connecting our worlds through our cultures’ connected children in Bangladesh with our children in the Funky ReadWrite clinic to share and learn. Every good thing has an end , well not exactly when it comes to us, we ! We extended the Clinic for an additional 3 months but eventually that also ended….we were so sad to see the children go but excited to enroll them all into our mentorship program which will provide them with

  • Academic guidance
  • Leadership skills training
  • Connecting students to Financial help/scholarships
  • A space place to talk about teen issues

This type of support has seen Abdul-Majeed graduated with BSC in Agriculture Engineering on a full scholarship this November, 2023!

For the 7th Edition , our overall star storyteller was won by David who also won A bronze Award in the 2023 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition
